Launceston Street/Irving Street intersection signalisation

Project description

The intersection of Launceston Street and Irving Street will be signalised to improve safety. It is estimated that more than 4000 vehicles access this intersection per day and this is set to increase with nearby residential developments in Woden. Design work is underway and is exploring potential upgrades including:

  • new traffic signals, including a controlled pedestrian crossing across Launceston Street
  • a zebra crossing on the slip-lane from Irving Street to Launceston Street
  • a formalised right turn queue lane for the right turn from Launceston Street into Bowes Street.

The installation of traffic signals and associated improvements will reduce queue lengths and accidents experienced at this key intersection, including improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Funding Value: $2 million was provided over three years in the 2019-20 ACT Budget.
