Heysen Street Link

Project description

We're improving connectivity for walking and cycling between Weston Creek and Woden. A new off-road cycling and walking path is being built along Heysen Street between Derwent Street, Lyons and Hilder Street, Weston.

The new path will provide a safe cycling and walking connection between Lyons and Weston.

We'll deliver:

  • a three-metre wide off-road path
  • safer road crossings
  • a safe interface of walkers, cyclists and equestrian users.
  • improved walking and cycling connections to Oakey Hill Nature Reserve.

Funding Value: $1.2 million

Construction

Expected start date: Early 2020

Expected completion date: Late 2020

Project Update

November 2019
We have been investigating an alternate alignment that runs through the Oakey Hill nature reserve (indicative map below). The benefits of this alignment are that it is a more direct and safer route for pedestrians and cyclists. We are progressing with approvals and hope to have a decision on the final alignment early in the new year.

Image shows alternate alignment running from the intersection of Devonport/Derwent streets, diagonally across the Oakey Hill Nature Reserve, to Heysen Street and on to Hilder Street.
