Athllon Drive Duplication Project

Project description

Athllon Drive is an arterial road extending south from the Woden Town Centre, past the Mawson Group Centre, through to the Tuggeranong Town Centre. Some sections of the road are duplicated, while others remain single carriageways. Current traffic volumes are in excess of 14,000 vehicles per day, with nearly 2,000 vehicles per hour in the peak periods.

Early design is being undertaken for Athllon Drive to both improve safety and respond to proposed development in the area.

An infrastructure study for the section of Athllon Drive between Hindmarsh Drive and to the south of Mawson Drive is being undertaken to consider the requirements for the proposed areas of development identified in the Woden Town Centre and Mawson Group Centre master plans.

Duplication concept design is being undertaken for the unduplicated sections of Athllon Drive, being the 600 metre section from Shea Street to Melrose Drive and the 2.4 kilometre section between Sulwood Drive and Drakeford Drive.

Funding Value: $700,000 was provided in the 2019-20 ACT Budget for the infrastructure study and concept design.
