The entire northern stage of works north of Fairbairn Avenue to the Federal Highway is now complete and is open to road users.
Looking southward from the Federal Highway interchange to the Majura Parkway
The south stage of works will connect Majura Parkway to the Monaro Highway, and is expected to have some impacts on roads that provide access to the Canberra Airport and Majura Park business precinct.
Works associated with the southern stage is currently underway. These works involve significant earthworks construction and major structures including the Molonglo River bridge. These works are expected to be completed by mid 2016.Where possible, the road construction plan ensures minimal disruptions to road users and limits work on the existing road network. For example, the Molonglo River Bridge construction will take place above the road and the bridge piers will be strategically placed to prevent disruption to existing traffic flows.
The ACT Government will work with the contractor and stakeholders to minimise traffic disruptions along Morshead Drive between Pialligo Avenue and Fairbairn Avenue, and at the Dairy Road roundabout.
The ACT Government has approved some night work to minimise construction impacts on road users. These works will be developed in consultation with stakeholders and the construction contractor to ensure there are no adverse impacts. For example, activities such as transporting road materials may be carried out overnight.
As part of the tender process, contractors were evaluated on their safety measures and were required to be accredited by the Australian Government Building and Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme. This scheme ensures contractors have robust safety management systems in place.
A new roundabout was constructed at the Tambreet Street interchange
Road users are encouraged to monitor traffic updates and avoid major areas of work at peak hours. The ACT Government will provide regular construction updates and communicate potential impacts on road users. Where possible, alternate routes will be identified and sign posted as part of the traffic management arrangements.
