The Majura Parkway project is a $288 million investment in our regional transport network and is the single largest road infrastructure investment ever made in the ACT. The project was jointly funded in 2011 by the Commonwealth and ACT Governments and will create long term economic, social and environmental benefits estimated at close to $1 billion.
The Parkway is now open north of Fairbairn Avenue to the Federal Highway. The old Majura Road remains open as a local access road and as an alternative route to the Majura Park Shopping Centre.
The Majura Parkway is 11.5 kilometres of dual carriageway and will soon link seamlessly with Monaro Highway in the vicinity of Pialligo., It is a high standard duplicated road with two lanes in each direction and a speed limit of 100 kilometres per hour. The Majura Parkway is forecast to carry around 40,000 vehicles a day including up to 6,000 trucks by the year 2030. The new road will play a significant role in improving the movement of freight both nationally and within our own region by easing congestion.

Already we are seeing much reduced travel times. A dedicated on-road cycling lane is now open as well as an off-road shared use path from Fairbairn Avenue all the way to the Federal Highway Interchange..
The design of Majura Parkway aims to limit the impact on existing land uses where possible as well as protect the important natural and heritage features of the Majura Valley.
The old Majura Road will remain open as a service/access road.
The Majura Parkway is an 11.5 kilometres of dual carriageway. After the Molonglo River and the Fairbairn Avenue bridges are completed, the Parkway will seamlessly link the Federal Highway with the Monaro Highway at Pialligo. Each traffic lane is 3.5 metres wide with a 2.5 metre roadside shoulder and a one metre off side shoulder.
The elegant twin curved bridges over Morshead Drive and the Molonglo River will run somewhat parallel to the existing Sylvia Curley Bridge. The Parkway also includes a shared use path running the entire length to accommodate cyclists and walkers. Provision for cyclists has also been made on the Parkway itself.
Majura Road will remain as a service road to various properties and provide access to the Canberra International Airport business precinct and Majura Shopping Centre.
