Site visits provide an interactive, educational experience and a chance to see what happens to recycling and waste after your kerbside bins are collected.
Two sites are included in the visit:
The Recycling Discovery Hub is located at the ACT's Materials Recovery Facility - where recycling is sorted. Visitors can interact with a hands on recycling exhibition, see the facility through a virtual reality experience and discuss recycling with facilitators. Take a look at the virtual reality experience at the Recycling Discovery Hub below:
The second site is the Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre where visitors can view the landfill, transfer station, reuse facility, landfill gas and leachate ponds.
Make a booking for your school or community group using the booking form. Looking for resources? Access our learning tools, including videos and guides.
Visits accommodate a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 25 attendees. (One group of 50 can book at one time if half visit the Resource Management Centre and half visit the Recycling Discovery Hub and then swap over.)
Children must be supervised at all times.
For safety reasons visits are not available for children under seven years of age (under Year 2).
Primary and Secondary Schools (from Year 2 – 12)
At the Recycling Discovery Hub visitors can explore what happens to the things they throw in the bin, investigate how the materials are sorted, discover what recycling becomes and identify actions they can take to avoid waste and recycle correctly. Explore the science of sorting and what happens to waste and recycling beyond the bin. Uncover the broader story in one session incorporating:
A presentation and interactive displays at the Recycling Discovery Hub to explore recycling from your kerbside bin to new products.
A tour of the Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre to view the landfill and associated facilities.
