The site is the toilet block on Tooms Place at Lyons Oval. Please refer to the map and images below for further information. The building surface is brick. The total surface of the wall is approximately 64 square metres, two walls of 2.5 metres high by 10 metres wide, two walls of 2.5 metres high by 2.8 metres wide, with all 4 sides of the building to be painted.
Active Canberra is looking for a bright, fun and engaging mural to cover up illegal tagging. EOIs should seek to achieve the following outcomes:
- complement the building and surrounding area through use of design and colour palette
- show the community contemporary art forms with the goal of encouraging understanding and appreciation
- Active Canberra would prefer a sports theme but are open to other designs.
All spray paint will be supplied to the artist. While there will be no payment for this work, it will be a great opportunity to paint and showcase their artwork at a visible location with a longer life span than at legal practice sites.
The role of the artist is to design and install a public art work in line with the specifications in this brief and subsequent Artists Agreement. The artist is expected to work in collaboration with Active Canberra and other stakeholders during design, development and installation.
The selected artist will be asked to supply a risk assessment for the site before any painting begins. The Graffiti Management Coordinator can support the artist by providing a template.
Quality spray paint and an undercoat will be supplied by TCCS, with the selected artist being given a colour palette of 50 colours to choose from.
Artists are required to submit a Mural Expression of Interest form, available below and artistic conceptual sketches for this project.
