Adopt a Dog

Are you considering purchasing a new dog? Owning and caring for a dog is incredibly rewarding, however comes with a lot of responsibilities.

The rangers at Domestic Animal Services (DAS) can give you expert advice on the responsibilities involved in owning a dog, and can help you choose the correct dog for your individual needs.

If you are ready to purchase a dog, consider adopting from DAS

View the dogs at the DAS shelter.

The dogs at DAS need your help. Every week there are new dogs who need re-homing. When you choose to adopt a dog from DAS, you're saving their life.

When you adopt from DAS you'll have peace of mind knowing your new best friend has passed a temperament test, is in good health and is micro-chipped.

Meet your new best friend

To help you find the perfect dog, you're able to visit DAS and get to know the dogs in a safe, grassy exercise area. Come back with the family, a friend, your other dogs or on your own to have a play and make sure everyone gets along. There is a dog exercise area at the DAS shelter where dogs can be introduced to each other to see how they interact.

Before leaving the shelter for their new home, DAS ensures all dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, and registered, which is included in the cost of adoption. If sexually entire, a voucher to have the dog de-sexed at the RSPCA is added to the adoption cost.

Surrender your dog to DAS

Owners wanting to surrender their dog to DAS are to attend the office during DAS opening hours. They will be asked to complete a form which will outline the dog's history to assist Rangers in their assessment of the dog's suitability for rehoming. A surrender fee for each dog is applicable. This fee may be reduced or waived where the owner would otherwise suffer hardship.
