Birrigai was establishing in 1980 as a jointly sponsored project between the then Department of Territories and the ACT Schools Authority. Now jointly managed by Transport Canberra and City Services and the Education Directorate, Birrigai is run as a 'School in Special Circumstances' under the ACT's Education Act 2004, and resides in a 'special purpose reserve' covering 570 hectares of natural bush land.
Birrigai proudly supports ACT and interstate schools in delivering high quality educational programs and experiences to students.
It also opens its doors to community and corporate groups for specialist team-building and leadership programs, and for the accommodation and catering of workshops, seminars and special events.
Birrigai is located in the beautiful foothills of the Brindabella Ranges on Tidbinbilla Road, approximately 40 minutes from Canberra's CDB. The complex is surrounded by native Australian bushland with an abundance of wildlife freely roaming the grounds.
