The ACT Veterinary Practitioners Board (the Board) is governed by the Veterinary Practice Act 2018 (the Act).
The Board provides relevant, accurate, and timely advice and assistance to the public and practitioners on matters relevant to the profession.
The Board is comprised of seven members appointed by the Minister for City Services including:
The Board is responsible for administering the provisions of the Act. The Board registers suitably qualified veterinary practitioners and specialists to enable them to practice in the ACT. The Board is also responsible for the consideration of complaints against registered veterinary practitioners or specialists and general monitoring of the conduct of the profession in the ACT.
The Board is empowered to take disciplinary action against veterinary practitioners who may be in breach of certain provisions of the Act. The Act requires that the Board convene a professional standard or personal assessment panel in accordance with the Act before imposing any disciplinary measures.
