Trees on Government Land

Trees are an integral part of Canberra's landscape and design. Transport Canberra and City Services manages over 700,000 trees in residential streets, major road verges, urban parks and other open space areas throughout the city. Maintenance undertaken by City Services includes pruning, planting and removal of urban trees.

Trees Within Lease Boundaries

Most trees on leased land in the ACT are protected under the Tree Protection Act 2005 (the Act). Trees covered by the Act are either Registered or Regulated Trees. Any work which may cause damage to these trees, such as tree removal, major pruning or lopping and groundwork near a regulated or registered tree requires approval
