Lost and impounded dogs

The impounded dog list shows dogs currently impounded at the Domestic Animal Services shelter. Some of the dogs have been handed in during the last seven days and are still waiting for their owners to collect them. If you are looking for your lost dog and it is not impounded at Domestic Animal Services, try RSPCA, Canberra lost pets Facebook database or your local vet clinic.

Impounding process

Once a dog is impounded it is listed online and held for four to seven business days depending on whether it was surrendered or roaming. The dog is checked by a veterinarian, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped (if needed) and its behaviour is assessed. Dogs who have passed the assessment and are in good health are removed from the impounded dogs list and added to the adopt a dog page.

Found dogs

If you've found a dog and cannot locate its owner, try taking it to a vet clinic, RSPCA, or Domestic Animal Services. Call 13 22 81 and our rangers will collect it during business hours. If you find a dog after hours you can leave it at the drop-off kennels adjacent to the main gate at Domestic Animal Services.
